A Weekend of First's

Today was a day of a lot of firsts for A.

We went to our first Bluegrass music picnic at Boordy Vineyards, that was so much fun! We met up with A's godparents after nap time this afternoon and make the trek up to the vineyard, which is about 40 minutes away from our house. We had never been before, so we weren't sure what to expect, but I can tell you it surpassed all of our expectations. There was this huge grass area that gently...well it didn't seem so gentle for a new walker...sloped down and ended on a little patio where a band was playing bluegrass music. We set up a few blankets (thank you Bed, Bath, and Beyond for making waterproof quilted blankets!) and laid out a little spread of cheese and crackers. Since it is a vineyard, you could taste all the wine you wanted (included in the $12 admission free) and could buy any bottle you felt met your standards. I have to say it was one of the most fun outings we have done in a while, that didn't involve cousins, animals, or shopping.

A was loving it! She decided it would be fun to walk out to the open grass area, away from the band, and play with the clover patch. Since bun-bun is her little bunny she cannot sleep without, it was pretty cute she was so fascinated with the clovers. If anyone has read the book Bear Wants More (in our favorite books list on the right) A is obsessed with the bunny in the book who brings bear to the clover patch by the cottonwood trees. In fact, another first...she has never really been interested in grass before! I mean, let's be honest, she was way too little last year to enjoy it...even though I tried, and the grass has just really stared to come up again. I think my favorite was when she was walking around with daddy, just taking it all in!

Then her Aunt Courtney (her godmother) decided to let her try chocolate frosting. Another first! Oh, you are correct, I said NO...about 14 times, but ultimately I left it up to her aunt's good digression, clearly she didn't care about poising a 1 year old with processes chocolate frosting. :)  Maybe this had something to do with the fact that Aunt Courtney was still in awe A said her name tonight (another first!). I guess it was not all bad though, because she didn't seem to like it. Shocker, because I can't get enough desserts...guess she inherited her daddy's sweet tooth, or lack thereof.

It was such a fun afternoon and really make the weekend feel like a bit of an adventure! I can't wait for all the other first's A is bound to have in the coming days, weeks, and months.
